Smoking causes so much of problems both because of the tobacco with 400 harmful chemicals inside and the smoke exhaled affects others people due to passive smoking. But there is one company which is trying to change things and introducing what is called as Electronic Cigarette which according to their stats :

Does not cause Lung Cancer as there is no carcinogenic product here. The refills contain just nicotine and propylene glycol, there is no tobacco. You just have to change refills and charge the battery.

There is no Tar i.e. the product which gets deposited on lungs

When you exhale it produces vapor which is not harmful for people around you.

Saves you from bad breadth and stained teeth due to smoking.

Electronic cigarette runs on battery and does not have carcinogenic product inside

This is what exactly it looks like. One of the intresting stats shows that this cigarette can save money also. Well it will depend on the place and smoking habbit. Particularly in Asian countries where cigarette is so cheap this might not work out.

However One thing I find good is people who cant quit smoking will be benefited by this. This can be a good alternative. Its less harmful.

It has a lithium rechargeable battery inside the top part of the cigarette. It lasts around for around 30-60 ’smoking’ sessions or 300-600 mouthfuls, depending on individual smoking habits. This can be refilled and reused again. It costs around 39 pounds.

I am really amazed with this product. Electronic smoking is something like I could have never imagined in my life. This does sound prmosing but will be it be a successful product. Will this kind of product appeal to you ? Do share with us in comment and you check out this electronic cigarette @ MyVIc

Stumbleupon is one of those services, which don’t need any introduction, especially among bloggers, webmasters, and internet savvies. However, keeping in mind that there might be people coming across this post, who don’t have any idea about Stumbleupon, can read this awesome post.

Yet I joined SU on Jan 01, 2008, but I lately became active here, I learnt so many things about Stumbleupon, with my experiences and Thanks to some very helpful people, who are in my friend list, special thanks to Rob.

Well, as likes and dislikes come naturally with every new thing that enters your life, there are certain things about Stumbleupon as well which I like and dislike, so just thought of sharing them with all of you.

Here goes the list,

Things I like about SU

Adding any other Stumbler to your friend list, allows you to see the pages he Reviews, and this is delivered to you under the ‘ What’s New’ tab on your Stumbleupon profile. This feature is like getting the pages of your choice, without any effort, provided, you and your fellow Stumbler have same set of interests.

If you like a Stumbler and his Stumbles, you can add him/her, to your friend list, and stay updated with whatever he Stumbles, irrespective of, that he adds you as a mutual friend or not.

You can show the gratitude towards any other Stumbler, if you really find something very useful, or if something that has appealed you big time, by writing Reviews on their profile.

In case you feel like supporting some page, and making it popular on Stumbleupon, the ‘Send to’ button is awesome tool to share the page immediately with your friends.

You can easily communicate with anyone, irrespective of his/her presence in your friend list, through personal messages (imagine Orkut, with scraps which are visible only to sender and the receiver) yet there is a feature through which one can restrict others by sending messages to him/her, but generally people don’t impose these restrictions, I have seen 2-3 profiles, which don’t allow you to send them messages.

There is something in the algorithm of the Stumbleupon, you never know when all of sudden you start getting huge traffic to a page which was submitted (discovered) at Stumbleupon, long back. I have seen this, one of my posts which was Stumbled in March, got like 500, 700 and 300 hits in month of August, which means you can’t consider a page on stumble to be dead, probably never.

Stumblers, generally respond well to your good Reviews for their Stumbles, and they respond by Stumbling your favorites, which probably increases the popularity of your Stumble.

Things I dont like about SU

Once you have added a Stumbler in your list, you keep getting the pages Stumbled by him/her, sometimes it may happen, that you realize that due to some reasons (like you lately lost interest in type of pages he/she Stumbles), you don’t want to receive pages from particular Stumbler in your account, you can’t set filters to it, only options left are, either you remove him/her from your friend list, or live with that.

There is no mechanism or search like thing, through which you can easily retrieve the page you that you stumbled long back, you can only manually search that page by moving page by page in your favorites list. Yet every page you Stumble gets bookmarked in your Stumbleupon folder, and they are even further classified, as per the tags, but still searching there too needs a lot of patience.

My experience says, Stumbleupon doesn’t listen to the reportings, facility of reporting, pages with wrong tag, or dead pages is there as a widget, but its been more than a month, and something I reported hasn’t been rectified as yet, you can read the full story about my experience here.

The messages I send to someone, there appears a checkbox which is to be selected, if you want to send the copy of that message, to yourself as well, I do select that for every message I send, but I don’t know where are they saved, or where is that copy of message sent to me, yet when you click to reply some message, you can see recent messages which you sent to that person, but this happens irrespective of the selection of check box.

So this was all about my experience, my own set of likes and dislikes, yet I Love Stumbling, now I am never found doing ‘Nothing’ as when I am supposed to do nothing, I am Stumbling, and sometimes even when I should be doing something, I am found Stumbling, lol, what’s your experience, Share your likes and dislikes in the comments. Hope you enjoyed reading this article.

I am not sure how much people will be charged for it but I am very sure heavy users wont go for it , I guess then who will need it ? Moreover imagine a person who gets smapped on scraps, Guess he will be paying money for spams more then scraps. So my Question is ? Do you use SMS notification of Orkut Scraps. ?

ast week I was contacted by Steven Gianvecchio, one of the co authors who did a case study on the topic Measurement and Classification of Humans and Bots in Internet Chat. As a summary this case study documented how the abuse of chat services by automated programs, known as chat bots, poses a serious threat to Internet users. Chat bots target popular chat networks to distribute spam and malware.

Here is a direct quote from their case study

In this paper, we first conduct a series of measurements on a large commercial chat network. Our measurements capture a total of 14 different types of chat bots ranging from simple to advanced. Moreover, we observe that human behavior is more complex than bot behavior. Based on the measurement study, we propose a classification system to accurately distinguish chat bots from human users.

Even we on TS had posted about this many a times. Some posts which really took these guys attention where

Yahoo! chat adds CAPTCHA check to remove bots ( Read More )

Bots are back in Yahoo! chat rooms. ( Read More )

Infact we also did made an open announcement to Yahoo on what they are doing with chat rooms. Users have pointed out their problems in all these posts.

We feel great that our effort for this was included in their case study along with. Thanks Guys.

If you be interested go ahead and read their article on Measurement and Classification of Humans and Bots in Internet Chat. Just a note that its little complex as it has lot more details with calculations, diagrams and lot more.

As a conclusion we are not sure what yahoo chat is doing about it but their captcha check is serious failure and it has done nothing but added problems because of which even regular users don’t get access to chat rooms, Pity. We hope they do something about it with time.

I think almost all of us are users of Stumble upon, we all have some level of Stumbleupon addiction as well, and why not, after all SU deserves that. Well, what I am going to tell here is about an unexpected experience, something which was quite surprising.

I wrote a post somewhere around first week of March, it was Submitted to Stumbleupon by someone on March 20, 2008 and somehow it was submitted under the ‘Martial-Arts’ tag. I never knew that this post is on Stumble upon until last week (around 3-4 days back), as soon as I came to know about this wrong tag thing, I reported to Stumbleupon using the widget on the page.

Now, today while going through the stats of our blog, I came to know that I got around 162 hits which were referred by SU, I thought may be they have corrected and filed it in ‘online tools’ tag or something of that sort, and checked it again, and I found that no changes have been made, its still under ‘Martial-Arts’ tag.

Imagine, 162 people sent by SU to this page, and they came here thinking that there is something about Martial Arts here, and they found an online dictionary. I am sure this page would have been given several thumbs-down, but was save probably because internet is a very common favorite of almost all the stumblers.

Now, may be, my reporting is in some que or something of that sort, that’s why it has not been rectified as yet, so, no big deal, such kind of things happen, but what made me write this post is, I never expected this kind of thing here on Stumbleupon, I mean its so organized, probably one of the best service I have came across during my surfing till date.

This post is not to criticize or to belittle Stumbleupon, It was something surprising, so felt like sharing with you, no hard feelings. What do you have to say on this story, please share.

It was really funny to see one of the Adunit of Adsense which was dispalying an ad whose Font Type was Comic Sans MS. Are they experimenting to attract more clicks ? The ad sure looks more attractive but how its going to effect the earnings and will it be more clicking. Just in case I have not done any setting to change the adsense ads font type.

This could be a indication either publishers are going to get privilage of setting font types or advertisers already got or may be its just an advertisement.

Today I got a very honest comment one of our posts on Random Thoughts where a reader of us said he did not like the post and I was not able to say it clearly what I mean to say. Really appreciate this. That triggered a thought in my mind of coming with this post and express much clearly on what I am trying to do here.

Lets take an example of a post which is Well Written and Complete:

Excellent English

Nice explanation with examples.

Includes Images or any other media like Video and Audio.

Step wise and clarity so the message is passed.

Effects :

People love it and praise

Most of the times these posts have nothing to say except a thanks.

Unless you are geeky enough there will be very less chance you would come out with more improvement.

What I find is the conversation is reduced between the authors and the readers unless there is scope of debate there.

Now lets take an example of post which is Verbal and Halfway

It delivers the message like you talk in to your friend.

It has ideas which might not be accurate.

It might be biased as “Author speaks what he likes” and expects readers to dicuss like you would expect your friend to get back to you when you discuss with him.

Its random, no orders , Just what the author feels.

Effects:

People might not like it as they might not get the idea in the first shot.

They argue what authors say is wrong and not appropriate.

Start a conversation which the well formed post failed to achieve.

The output is 10 times better because you find whats wrong and whats right based on valid arguments.

I gained 50% of what I aimed for with this experiment and these posts. So time for readers feed back.

Tell us what You actually felt with this series.

Was it triggering in your mind where some conversation can be made ?

Was it making you feel that author can be corrected ?

Or anything what you want to say back to me..

Feel free and lets get the discussion going on .

Gmail and Outlook Express both had been the best tools for checking mails and each having its own set of features which them to be used depending on users choice and likeness and the complexity of usage. I had tried using Microsoft outlook express man a times but every time I tried harder It was one step moving back from using it. So what bothered me using Outlook Express and why I use Gmail instead.

Gmail is pretty simple to use. No complexity.

My approach is to use accounts separately instead of mixing all the emails at one place. Unless you have 100’s of accounts MS outlook is of no use to me.

Microsoft Outlook express is very powerful in terms of features its provides but then its yet one more heavy application I need to run on Windows which takes both memory and Space.

I don’t need to do any backup on Gmail. Its there and it will be always there. Outlook I need to archive and do this and do many other things. That ads one more step for me.

Many of the features which people look for like labels, filters and others are there on Gmail already. And soon we should get folder feature too.

I agree that its the user and the usage decides which fits for whom but when I see to myself , probably simplicity and light weight applications is what I prefer too. How about you ? What you intend to use ? Discuss with us in comment and suggest me something more.

Its a bare fact that there always groups for Stumble, Digg or Delicious where people help each other out to give points to each other articles and try to get popular. Here is the Life Cycle of these kind of groups:

Beginning

It starts pretty good. Every body is expecting that they will be getting good traffic

Now you start sending mail for all your good posts you write and so do the others.

You support each and every post without seeing you like or not.

You also get the support back. Nice.

Time where people starts getting irritated:

Seeing the huge support now the number of emails is 3 times before with around 3 links each.

People are surprised and they feel that now its just traffic games ( Wonder they did not realize before )

Now they read and see if hey like it else they just delete the mail.

Death Time

People start hating and say to themselves, this group has become useless.

People start sending mails and say , I am leaving the group.

Number of emails goes down and now you send only posts which are really good.

You still don’t get any points.

What went wrong ? Why are you not getting any points for even your good posts now ? Is it just people don’t like it or Something else . Can you see it ?
