WikiReader: Carry the Wikipedia in your Pocket

Wikipedia is one of the sites I have visited most; readers of TS.net would have seen several citations of Wikipedia in my posts. Whenever I am in need of some information, Wikipedia seems to be the elixir.

Now, it has become damn simple to access the Wikipedia, and that too without any internet connection, all you need to do is, grab a WikiReader, a gadget which allows you to browse through Wikipedia pages (i.e. 3 million topics) offline.

It has 3 buttons, ‘Search’, allows you to search a topic, ‘History’, allows you to access the browsing history, and ‘Random’, button to see random topics and read about them, and also it has Touch Screen for Simple Navigation.

It doesn’t need any internet connection, in order to get the updates, you can either buy a new memory card, or you can download the updated Wikipedia on a memory card and insert it in your WikiReader.

WikiReader comes at an affordable price of $99, and the updated memory card costs $29 for two updates per year, plus taxes and shipping.

Definitely a very useful and handy gadget can be used for gift article for the curious bunch, ideal for kids, safety from porn and other explicit stuff assured.

In an awesome post by Frank Reed, he explains about My Sky Status service of Lufthansa Airlines which allows you to publish your Position in the Sky on your Facebook or Twitter time line.

As an example your status would look like :

All you will need to do is approve My Sky Status applications to your twitter or Facebook account and register your flight details along with it. They call it “Travel made social”

A must tool for Sandwich freaks. This little tool calculates the price of a sandwich depending on how you make it :

Kind of Bread
What kind of whip ? Mayo or Miracle.
Mustard : Yellow or Dijon ?
How much Beef ?
Cheese ? What kind ?
And other veggie factors like tomato, pickle or olive etc.

Once you make your choice just hit the calculate price button and you would get a layer wise visual pricing of the sandwich of your choice. So next time you make one at home make sure you don’t fall short of some bucks.

A New Life To Old Flash Drives. Don’t throw your old USB flash drive away. Instead, you can use an old flash drive to prevent your laptop from being stolen. Here is how.

Install free software on your laptop. http://www.lalarm.com/LaptopAlarm. (free for personal use)
Fasten a neck strap to your old USB flash drive.
Fasten the other end of the strap to a table.
Plug in the USB flash drive into a USB port of a laptop.
Lock the laptop by pressing the Windows logo key and L key together.
Define zones like Home or Friends where you know laptop would be safe.
Send alert to Mobile Device.
Destroys all your personal data if configured. This tip is also useful if you worry about identity theft.

When a thief removes the laptop from the table, the USB flash drive will be disconnected from the laptop and then a loud siren sound will be emitted.

Should you walk or take a bus ? Maths and Commonsense

Many a times it becomes difficult to decide if you should take a bus or just walk when you feel like you are close to the place where you want to get. For example if you just need to walk around 2km to reach to your friends house taking a bus might take much time because of number of stoppage and waiting time. Instead of you could just walk down you can beat the bus.

Walk or Bus is a simple concept which says

if you have N blocks to travel, you should only wait for the bus if it is less than N minutes away.

We assume that buses travel at 30 mph, and that the average person walks a 20 minute mile. If you walk faster, you can also consider the entries in blue, equal to a 15 minute mile.

It’s simple math or just common sense but many of fail to realize that. So do you take a bus or just walk ?

Increase your reading speed with Spreedr

When it comes to reading there are two aspects of it, How fast you can read it and how much you can understand it when you read. Now when you try to combine both one of them falls i.e. Either you can read fast and understand nothing at end or Understand everything but take the day for it. None of which is good.
