Like you can see in image how Air Snare detects all those intruders. You can scan MAC, TCP, UDP and set up an email alert if you are away from your computer. You can also check DHCP requests on a separate window. Download Air Snare

After I took the office It was a common routine for me to change the network settings i.e. IP addresses and DNS settings of my network card when I came to office and when I get back to home. This was little tedious unless Sandip Pointed out to Network Connection Manager application.

This application creates multiple network profile using the IP addresses and DNS setting which can be switched with just one click. Of course give a minute max to change it.

Apart from all this it can verify if any of the field is not valid or so. This way you have less of hassle scratching your head for improper connection. As a bonus this application is 100% portable which lets you even transfer your connection settings from one computer to another.

The only drawback which I see in this application is that it does not load the current network settings by default. I would have definitely preferred this making it easier for anybody to pick and store the data on the run.

You can read more details about this application on the original site ( Romanian) or the English one and download the application from the same page.

If you are looking for more than just switching the IP, Check out Net Set Man which lets you carry all your settings like printer, DNS, DHCP, Domains , SMTP profiles along with you.

Many a times you need to find what are the ports which are open and connected to Internet i.e. for example like yahoo meseenger or gtalk always connect to their server using a particular port on your computer.

APort is neat utility that can give you a lit of programs which are using a port and connected to a particular ip address. It gives a nice interface with details of process, hostname etc. Since process can change and new can start, the list gets updated every few seconds.

Hwoever if you would not like to install a software for this purpose, you can use the command line option for this which is netstat -nabv 5. You will need admin privilege to run both of them.

Thomas Amundsen sent us a solution to fix DSL line which happens when Windows TCP/IP stack and winsock catalog gets messed up.

Here is Thomas’s hands on solution.

I had problems with something blocking my DSL Connection on my Vista PC. There were no problems with spyware, adware, malware, virus etc etc.

The computer itself was running at top speed. But the internet connection was extremly slow and my browsers used about 500,000K as soon as it booted.

After much ado and painfully slow googling I found that sometimes the Windows TCP/IP stack and winsock catalog gets messed up – causing the DSL line to glog.

The solution to mine and others which I’ve helped was to do this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type: netsh int ip reset reset.log (TCP/IP stack repair options ) 3. Type: netsh winsock reset catalog (Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults) 4. Reboot the machine.

It also works on Win XP Sp2. The soultion was posted here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/networking-forum/modems-cable-dsl-satellite/194539-solved-something-blocking-my-dsl-connection.html

I hope this can help many others

Thanks a lot thomas for the right solution. I hope many will get benifited from this.

Do you have any hands on solution which you would like to share with us ? Send us @ info at technospot dot net.

If you work on a computer which is a part of your LAN, chances are bright that you yearn for a LAN messenger to communicate with other computers on your LAN. There are several LAN messengers available; I haven’t used many of them. However I recently came across this LAN Messenger named as Softros LAN Messenger.

Softros LAN Messenger is a light weight application, which allows you to chat, send/receive files etc. over the LAN. Simply download and install this application on all the computers (or on the ones you want to chat with), leave the rest on this Softros LAN Messenger.

Once installed, Softros LAN Messenger will show all the users in a messenger on your system as shown below.

Now you are ready to chat and send files, the option to send files on the LAN won’t be very useful for several users, as sharing can easily help with this, but if in case you don’t want to give the rights to access your computer to others due to some reasons, send files option is a good idea.

These were the basic functionalities of Softros LAN Messenger, lets us have a look at the other features.

Chat logs can be saved if required and enabled.

‘Settings’ button the main window, allows you to access several other options, like time interval to refresh the user list, Idle time, user info, sounds for events, etc.

You can create groups; this will help you organize the users in your messenger list easily.

All this comes for free, however if you want more features you can buy the full version.

Softros LAN Messenger is simple and easy to use; no networking knowledge would be required, light weight, with all the generic characteristics of any IM Client.

Download Softros LAN Messenger

You can start the challenge by clicking on ‘Play Game’, there are 10 levels in the game, you upgrade to next level only after answering 7 correct out of 10.

As the name, Network Rockstar Challenge, your avatar is seen standing on a stage, performing with a guitar, and if you fail to answer 7 questions correctly, just get ready for empty bottle throwing, and hooting like stuff from audience.

Best is, take the challenge in a room, where there is nobody except you. You can send your scores to a friend as well inviting them to try to beat you.

Copying files over wireless network or WLAN is tricky dues to changing factors of signal loss, bandwidth restrictions, connectivity etc and when you have huge number of files to copy it becomes trouble some as windows will never know where copy stopped.

Wireless Get is a free software ( Wireless File Sharing, Transfer and Management Software) which makes sure your files get copied over WLAN network and takes care of factors which we mentioned above. This way it will always know from where to resume if connection is lost while copying files.

Copying files over wlan

You can create list of tasks ( file copy ) which needs to be processed. Once this is ready you can either run it immediately or manually later. While creating the task you need to set source, destination, file filter, sub directory copy option etc.

Features of Wireless Get

Use write cache to protect your hard disk driver.

Monitor clipboard, drag&drop support, easy for use.

Shutdown when finished.

Copy folder with filter.

You can find details of WirelssGet and download a copy for yourself here

When we talk about port forwarding to anybody they feel its kind a complex and to geeky thing, well that true to an extent probably because the interface makes it much more complex. We had talked about Port forwarding in our Utorrent Speed Guide but its old classical way of doing it.

Majority of times, Gamers always need to port forward whenever they try a new game and they need to turn it off when they don’t play that game any more. Doing a classical way is too much of trouble but if you do it with Simple Port Forwarding Software you gonna fall in love with it.

Simple port forwarding software is a complete tool which manages all your forwarded port list and even makes it easy for you to forward a new port for game which it find from its huge database list of more then 650 games.

Router added to Simple port forwarding

Once you add your router into this software, it then uses its huge database of routers to do all things. Remember it still uses web interface but it runs withing the application which makes it easy for a user to understand.

Adding a new port for games is very easy step. Just right click on the port list area and add new. This gives you 2 options. First is to pick from database according to games and second is to add your custom port forward.

Games port forwarding

Overall this is an excellent software for all port forwarding works. It makes easy to add a port , manage them etc. Here is the list of all the features in their own terms :

Save Your Ports List To Easily Share With Friends or Family.

Automatic Program Updates. (Must run as administrator in Vista and Windows 7)

Easily Update Routers, Predefined Ports, and Languages with just a few clicks. (Must run as administrator in Vista and Windows 7)

Set Your Computers IP Address To Static or DHCP With Just One Click.

Easily Add/Remove/View The Ports You Have Forwarded To The Windows Built-in Firewall.

Ever wondered, how did the Internet evolve? I am sure the answer is ‘Yes’, almost all of us at some point of time wanted to know this, and somehow you never wanted to know about it, I am sure, now you want, aren’t you?

Well, I recently came to know about this amazing video, by Melih Bilgil which tells you about the development of Internet and the logic behind this development.

This 8 minutes and 10 seconds long video will roughly reply all your queries you ever came across, regarding the evolution of Internet. Moreover, this video is an example of the power of a Video or Presentation.

The beauty lies in the fact that video has not only described the evolution of Internet, in fact it has given something more than just an overview about other milestones, technologies etc. which came in picture while the evolution took place.

The description covers the following points -

Batch Processing System (1957).

Then discusses the arrival of Time Sharing Systems.

The evolution of network with the introduction to ARPANET.

Later in this series enters the introduction to RAND Corporation’s Military Network, Commercial Network of NPL, Cyclades scientific network

This leads to NCP (Network Control Protocol) which later was replaced by TCP (Transmission Control Protocol),

To avoid the congestion and false transfers, the development of Packet Switching comes into picture.

Requirement of a de-centralized network, to keep the network operative even when a loss of node is observed.

Later, comes in picture the replacement of Radio Waves by the Direct Waves, so as to keep the network safe from atomic attacks.

Distributed networks evolve, so as to overcome the short range of Direct Waves.

Later focus was laid on communication of one network to other, Internet was born.

To guarantee the compatibility between networks, TCP/IP Protocol was brought into existence.

The icons used in Video are available at PICOL for free download as zip file, the icons are 32×32 in dimension.

According to the article on TIME Magazine, A brief History of Internet -

“Bilgil tells Internet’s story with basic black shapes, which he calls “PICOL” icons. He hopes the icons will one day become universal symbols that people of all languages can understand. “If you see the same signs often, you automatically learn them and can read them like letters without thinking,” he explains. Bilgil wanted to make an instructional video to show off his new symbols, and he chose the Internet as his topic.”

So, don’t miss this awesome Video, I have already watched it a couple of times, am sure you are going to love it, one of the best videos I have ever seen.
