Most of the time we have tasks which we keep on repeating. For an example I have to take snapshots of SnagIt to make tutorial. Now If I don’t have some predefined settings I will keep on doing more work. Luckily , SnagIt has feature called as Profiles which allows you to select specific settings for Input, Output , Saving and You can use it as many times you want. Thus if you have a situation similar to me, create a specific profile in SnagIt to increase your productivity and save time.

You can do it easily using the SnagIt Profile wizard which is located on top-right of the software. Its pretty much 6 step process and at the end allows you to save with a name. You can even create a group for similar profiles and save them together.

When you work hard to create those awesome images with colors, text box and somebody steals it, It felts bad. You can stop it but you can at least make people think twice before they use it by adding a watermark ( a floating name on every image ) which reflects your identity. That could be your name or your site name.

However Adding watermark is tedious if you have to do it for all the images one by one. Here is a small feature of SnagIt which allows you to batch convert all the images and apply watermark to them.

Open you SnagIt software and check the left pane ( left hand side) . You will find something called as Related Task. Look for Convert Images. Click on it.

This will open up a wizard which allows you to select any number of files and convert them into desired format with All effects.

Its a 4 step process, So when you reached 2nd Step, You will be asked to add Filter . Click on modify button and add watermark.

Select Next and finally you will be asked for File names and Output directory ( where you want the watermarked images to be stored ).

You can preview your watermark and adjust according to it. However there is one drawback here. You are not allowed to add text as watermark, Instead you will need add another image as watermark.

Click Next and You are done.

Have Your say!

SnagIt allows you to capture a web page with links and make it more interactive by adding text or image popup and converting them into flash , PDF format or save it as html and the good news is its damn easy!. So if you want to capture a web page and make it a flash video out of it, you can start doing it along with me right now. Let’s Begin!

Its divided into 4 parts 1. Enabling Link capture, 2. Activating Flash Hotspots, 3. Editing Advanced Flash Animation and 4. Making a Flash or PDF with links

Enabling Link Capture

Open SnagIt and Go to Profile section

Click on the Input part and you will see a menu. Click on the “Keep Links”

Keep the web site or page open and capture an image

Activating Flash Hotspots

After you capture the image, it will open in SnagIt editor. Now on the right hand side bottom , look for Links/Hotspots item. Click on it

Now all the links within the captured images will be highlighted with red. Select one of them and you will be able to add tooltip and link address. Edit them as your wish and you are just closer to the last step.

Editing Advanced Flash Animations

Now you just don’t want to edit the links and create a flash out of it right!!. We need to add some interaction to it. Right under the link address, you will see “Advanced Flash Hotspot”, Click on it and fun part begins.

With this, you will able to add Text or an Image annotation or simply make an image or a text appear when somebody hover’s its mouse on the link.

Additionally you can do a Mouse Over Highlight too. Pretty Cool eh!

Creating a Flash / PDF

Now since we have done so much of hard work we will bring it in action. I am going to make a flash so after finishing all the stuff just save it in .SWF format and play it. A small example is right below. Its a flash you will be able to click the links. ( Hover mouse over “^ cool extensions….”) Simple and straight!!

Hope you had lot of fun!!! and do ask me in comments if you have any doubt in this!

By default SnagIt allows you to capture a single region on a screen or window. What If you want to capture multiple areas of a window or a web page in one go. Say You want to take some part on header and some from the body or randomly from any where. Here is the way to do it. ( If you still have not downloaded it links are the end )

Capturing Multiple Areas

SnagIt comes with an inbuilt capability which you need to activate , so that you can capture different regions. Here is the way to do it.

Open SnagIt and Scroll down to Profile area

Now among the 4 areas ( Input, Output, Effects and Options) , take a look at the Options.

You will be seeing 6 icons among which one is Double Window. Select it

Now get ready with a window you want to capture and hit the camera button or capture button.

Now the trick is, You should select any region by using mouse + left click and then repeat it

All you captured sections will be inverted in color ( which makes sure you know what you captured )

After you are done, right click and click on Finish, If not you can say restart or cancel. Look at the image for better understanding

However the Images wont be put together when you finish, The SnagIt editor maintains the distance between them as they were on the page itself

SnagIt comes along with huge support for image formats / image format right from BMP to PNG to RAW to TGA. However by default all the file format is not enabled. So if you are looking for more format types here are the steps.

Enabling Advanced Image format

Open your SnagIt Editor and go to Output ( Under Profile)

Next , select properties

Another windows will open up with Image options as the first

Check the image, you need to check the Show Advanced Types. This will add more image formats for you.Now next time you save your file you can choose from the save option. Moreover I will suggest to set a folder for all the outputs to be saved at one place, instead of asking it every time.

Setting up the Automatic File Name option

If you have to take a couple of images on run, SnagIt asking you for a file name, every time, is real trouble. Instead if you can fix a filename prefix by which SnagIt Editor can save all your captures will be a good option. Look at the image above. You will notice there is an option for File Name.

It Allows you to make it prompt for file name every time

Fixed Filename ( Warning this could be dangerous if you are taking number of images, as they will be over written)

Third option is what we look for it. Click the radio button and then options button

Here you will be able to choose a prefix and a sub-prefix like computer name or your name with date formats and others. This can save lot of time of yours as you will not be prompted for entering name all the time.

SnagIt allows you to capture screen shots and manipulate before you save it as a final output . I was exploring it yesterday after reading Amit’s post. Amit says TechSmith released the full licensed version of SnagIt for free – that promotion is still active. Few next posts will be coming with SnagIt Tips where I will sharing important things while using SnagIt

How to send captured images to Multiple outputs

Now suppose you want to send a captured image both to Excel and Word document , How you go about it. Here are simple steps

Open you SnagIt tool

Under profile, look for output. Click on it

You should be able to see Multiple Output Menu, Check it.

Now again click on Output and select Word and Excel options one by one. They will be highlighted after selection

Now capture an screen shot ( Using the Red Camera button , I will tell you later why)

Take a look at SnagIt editor where is says Done.

You will be able to see Word and Excel Options with Finished added there.

Now hit CTRL + ENTER and the output will be sent to new Word and Excel file.

Now the Catch : I tried using the Oneclick feature of SnagIt for multiple output but every time it captured it to SnagIt editor, the Multiple option for word and excel ( Like one you see above) never showed up . If I am not wrong TechSmith should do something about it, as users are forced to use the Camera Button.

Download SnagIt for Free

Step 1: Download the demo version of SnagIt 7.2.5 from TechSmith FTP servers below: Here
