Create your own Virtual Private Network with Gbridge
Gbridge is free software which allows you to create a virtual private network or secure VPN using Gtalk Service. This way you can add Multiple computers into the bridge ( VPN ) and share files of any size among the computers. This is a good alternate if you want to share large files. It also allows sync folders between two computers and remote control your desktop but in a very secured manner.

Create Virtual Private Network
However you will have to use your Gmail Username to create it. I am guessing they might have integrated Gtalk Service just to make sure authenticated users are logged in, which is similar to passport service of Microsoft.
This does work even if your friends are not using Gtalk Service however if they are you get to easy transfer bigger files and becomes ideal solution for remote computer assistance and remote presentation.
It uses :
- IPv4 for authentication, encryption and mobility.
- p2p for Sharing files.
- Dynamic Ip and Private Ip for making it more secured.

Seems like an excellent service! I generally don’t think of VPN as anything but implemented by an IT shop. It’s remarkable all that Google is doing to make stuff free to users. ARe you aware of ways to drive 2-factor authentication on top of this service? Seems like there ought to be a free service for this as well.
@Chuckie: Thats not a Google Service but Gmail Accounts is used for authentication purpose. 2 factor authentication ….Did not get you that exactly
@Chuckie.
Look into services that use your Phone as the token (I think this is one of the best uses of the ubiquity of mobile phones), can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I’ll have a quick search around and see what I can find.
Thanks guys. I’ve come across PhoneFactor (www.phonefactor.com/solutions/remote-access-vpns) and I’m feeling pretty good about what I see. Looks like a free service for lightweight users and network managers, and could sit on top of services like Gtalk to provide strong authentication for vpn.
@ Chuckie.
Yes PhoneFactor looks great, it also enables immediate fraud detection. Pretty cool to think if anyone tries to log in to my system, I will get a call and now instantly what is going on.
I think of PhoneFactor more in terms of sitting on top of a remote access vpn, or even specifically associated with a particular app, like outlook web access or electronic banking.
