Database Bulls of Info-Storage on Linux - MySql and PostgreSql
A database in simple words is defines as a collection of information which is organized in structural format, otherwise it can be imagined as library which holds books i.e information. As the technology changes, so did the database. Now information in databases are organized in related format or in simple words they have relation with each other.Hence they are called as RDMS or Relational Database Management System. This is similar to like every post on this blog has related comments!!!

MYSQL - The world’s most popular open source database
MySql is the most popular open source database around the globe which comes along with most of the Linux operating systems. It was boon to internet when it was on boom. Being free and reliable it became the major driving source of internet industry. Even yahoo runs on MySql. Its popularity was not only due to the open source but its one of the database whose deployment is easy and its easy to use too. Since then MYSQL Ab. the proud owner had been adding new feature and enhancing for the enterprise solutions. The power of mysql is proven by sites like Youtube,Flickr and Wikipedia all of which handles millions of users worldwide. Here are some of the features of MySQL
- Support for multiple storage systems.
- In MySql 5.1, the engines can loaded at runtime.
- Supports most of the programming languages with language specific API.
- Both Command line and GUI tools is available. for windows, mac and Linux
- Its free but support is charged around $595 per server.
PostgreSql- The world’s most advanced open source database
PostgreSql is the second most popular open source database but surely one of the most advanced one. It supports some features which are not available in MySQL. The only thing which beats it off MYSQL is its relatively slow. But the news says the new version will be out of box.Its free to download. The name PostgreSql comes from post-ingres, as it was developed based on Berkleys Ingres Project.Features of Postgresql:-
- Compliance to ACID standards, ANSI SQL 99 and SQL 2003 standards.
- API’s available for most of the programming language.
- Comes with most sophisticated features like Multi-Version Concurrency control, point in time recovery etc.
- Proffesional Support is also available
