Do you ask these questions before writing for your audience

By Ashish Mohta

Last night I had an effective discussion with  my Godfather / Guru - Tushar Telichari and We were having some discussions on Audience and who reads our blog and who are they actually. This morning I read an article which was circulated in office and that co-incidentally came on Audience too. That made me to think a lot. I would like to share it with you all today.

What is an Audience ?

Audience is not just one person or a group of person but right person or right group of persons with whom you can make an effective communication.Whether you are writing an article or an email, a sms or preparing a presentation you need to think about your audience.

What is Effective Communication ?

Effective communication is “Right message in Right Manner at Right Time to the Right Person” In Blogging World ,We right articles everyday. We try our best to send our views, share our experience with our readers and blogger friends. But before writing an article have you ever thought “What is An audience ?”. I would say “What” and not “Who” as I am trying to ask if we truly know the meaning of the term Audience.

Ask yourself these questions before you write your next article.

  1. What does my audience know ?
  2. What does my audience need to know ?
  3. What does my audience expect ?
  4. How will my audience react ?
  5. Will my audience disagree with me ?
  6. How might I persuade my audience to agree ?
  7. How can I make myself clear ?
  8. What specific examples will illustrate my points ?
  9. How can I inform, amuse, educate, entertain or motivate my audience ?

The last question depends on the purpose of your communication.

One of the most important aspects of effective communication is to think like your audience. Its like if you want to design a game , play the game first. Do not assume your audience knows what you will write or has the same knowledge or information.

Always be clear, be sensitive to your audience needs.

The questions which I have shared with you , not all is mine. As I told you This is a part of an article which I read this morning and there was no reference to the author.

So do you ask some questions to your self before writing an article ? If you do share with us in comments and we will add them with your reference in this article.

This is sound advice. Often writers will close a topic leaving no room for discussion. If you pose these questions you will end up with a solid and sound post every time.

this is a blue print for us before making any post. Make sure to who is the target and must have a vivid vision toward their needs.

I love your list of questions, though I’m not sure about this one:

“How might I persuade my audience to agree ?”

I don’t mind when some of my readers disagree with me. I give my viewpoint, and I back it up. If that means I’m going to get 10 comments on the other side of the argument, then I’m more than happy to join the debate. :D

@Michael: Definetly Yes, Even I was little no convinced with this point But What is meant as per my understanding is , You can have proof or live examples or your argument for a particular topic. You might be wrong but as our human nature we don’t bend unless somebody proves us wrong :). Thanks for your comment, thats what is the idea behind the very point and we discussed on it.
