Sharing Google Search Result link and Maps link are bit of  problem because they are very log due to so man characters and parameters added with it.

• Either they break when you send in Instant messenger ( I have seen on yahoo messenger specially ) and om emails long URL just doesn’t work.
• Too long to copy
• And doesn’t make any sense unless somebody actually clicks and see the result.

Not so good Google Search and Map urls

You cannot blame them because that’s how the Internet works but you can it a little easier for yourself by using Two Services which are just made for Google Maps and Google Search. They are Gog.is and Mapof.it. Both of them can

• Shortening the length.
• Adding More Sense ( i.e. Keywords and names can be added directly ) , So when you read on IM  or email you know where you are going.
• Make it easy to use and share.

Gog.is : Shortening the Google Search

• Makes the search rest url  short.
• Add keywords to the URL i.e. gog.is/ashishmohta will redirect them to the google search for ashishmohta
• You can skip doing a gogole search and then copy link and paste. Just say http://gog.is/obama+latest to find a combined search for Latest on Obama.
• They have even predefined prefixes e,g,. ( Gog.is)

book: or b: : Will send you to Google book search. Try http://gog.is/book:poetry.
news: or n: : Will send you to Google news search. Try http://gog.is/news:google.
stock: or q: : Will send you to the first hit on Google finance. Try http://gog.is/stock:apple.
wiki:, or w:: gog.is will redirect to the first hit on Wikipedia. Try http://gog.is/wiki:leo+laporte

movie: or imdb: or just m:: will do the same for Imdb.com.Try http://gog.is/movie:slumdog.

Mapof.it : Making Google maps a better place.

• Makes Google Map links short
• Customized URL for direct firing google map query e.g. http://mapof.it/Golden+chennai+beach to find Chennai beach on Google maps. This is similar to what we were doing in Gog.is.
• Since Map.of.it is dedicated more on Google Maps You can even do a from palce to place search quickly e.g.  http://mapof.it/Kilpauk/Golden + beach

However , Map.of.it is just not dedicated to Google maps.  That’s a default search engine but  you can also use  Multimap (mm),Yahoo! (y) ,  Open Street Map (osm)  and Tiny Geocoder/Tiny Multimap Route (t). Find more on Mapof.it ( Via Makeuseof )

On concluding thoughts I was wondering that the google maps or Google Search should come with these services in built. This will make people to search more and firing search right from browsers without going there.  What do you think ?
