How to Increase Space on Hard Drives using Window Washer
By Manav
Webroot Window Washer 6.5, is an awesome software, to provide you with the prerogative to have more space on your hard disk or drives, by Washing (deleting), unnecessary files and thus solving low disk space issues or How to free-up disk-space on your hard drive ( like when you receive a message stating that you do not have enough hard disk space to complete the installation ). This software explains how to determine how much disk space you have left and how to increase, or free up, hard disk space
Window Washer also cleans all aspects of your browser activity, including Internet history, address bar, cache, cookies etc..
Main Features of this latest version i.e. 6.5 are
- Windows Vista Compatible
- Erases tracks of sites you’ve visited
- Removes thousands of unnecessary files
- Increases computer performance
- Can be set to clean your computer on a regular schedule
A 30-days Trial Version, of Webroot Window Washer can be downloaded, from here. Running the setup and launching the application, you come across the window shown below. After this we will take feature walk through of this useful software.

Wash My Computer Now
Here “Wash My Computer Now” tab can be seen, clicking on which immediately starts its job by permanently deleting the files from your hard drive. Options to clean browsers details, windows cleaning options can be seen below.

Bleach Settings
“Bleach Settings” is another part of same main window, ‘Bleach’, an encryption feature, completely overwrites files with random characters to make them unrecoverable. This feature is so powerful it exceeds the tough standards of the Department of Defense and the National Security Agency. Window Washer allows you to choose between four bleach methods. “DOD 5220.22-M” is the recommended method, which overwrites each, three times, but if you are using a P.C. with low resources, in that case you can also choose “Random” method by setting it on less than 3 times.

Another “Slack Space” window is found here which is quite well defined.
Option Settings
Now, left panel of the main window which is shown below has next tab, “Options”

This allows you to Schedule your washes, time intervals, session washes, all the options are quite user friendly as well as self-defined.
Free Space Washing
On the same left panel we have another tab as “Free Space Washing”, this feature allows you to get rid of data left behind from any non-secure deletions. This can be done on any of the partitions on your hard drive. Overwrite method can be chosen here as well.

Last option on the same panel is “System Eraser”, it can be used to permanently delete all the data from your disk, this feature is to be used with caution, not being careful, you might end up erasing all the data from your disk, and making them unrecoverable.
Clicking on the “System Eraser” tab explains this feature fully. According to my experience , it’s a must have software (esp. for P.C. with Lesser RAMs, Small Hard Disks). After every wash you can check what this software has done for you, i.e. how much space is again reverted at your disposal.
