Microsoft has released Silverlight code names “WPF/E” (Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere). As Long Zheng points out that everybody including Business Week is talking about Silverlight as new Video Player software. But actually its not its bigger than that!!!.

Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the Web.Silverlight represents a next generation technique which will give cost-effective rich media solutions with assured application delivery using Windows Media technologies. Yes! Its Windows Media Technology but yet its for every platform!! Exciting I have never seen Microsoft doing a cross Platform thing before .

Here are some quick terms before I start telling you about it:

• Cross Browser: It means Silverlight will work on any browser like IE and Firefox.
• Cross Platform: Its installable on both Mac and Windows, so works bothsides.
• Rich Interactive Applications: This is something new, RIA are applications which allows you to interact with them instead of just sitting and watching them, similar to our interactive TV’s. It integrates based applications with rich graphics and media. It provides vector based graphics, media, text, animation and overlays.
