Save money : Find right International country Calling codes

Numbers dialed for calling to a foreign country depends on two factors from where you are calling and to which country you are going to call.

Like if you are in India and want to call US all you need is dial 00 + 1 + area code + phone number. Now India’s country code is 91 so if somebody calls from US it can be thought as 0 + 91 + area code + phone number, but this is not right.  You have to dial  011 +   91 +  area code + phone number. If you don’t know this you end up making one wrong call and loose some money.

To clear out this confusion, Simple Country Codes has launched their service which asks you 2 things,  Where are you now and where you want to call. The auto complete feature lets you input that quickly and then you get the right code to start with.

Find international calling code

This is important so we don’t make wrong calls and waste money. Specially in India its pretty costly to make international call unless you do from VOIP.  So save your money and try find the exact code to call first and then make calls.  Boomark Simple Country Codes ( Via Makeuseof )

That isn’t correct – you don’t have to dial 011+91++ to call an India phone from outside of India. 011 is no international code – & it happens to be a STD code in India for Delhi! :) To call an India phone number from outside India you will need to call 0091++ & if you are calling a mobile number in India then it will be just 0091+. All country codes are prefixed with 00 which represents the symbol ‘+’ so if dialing a number XXXXXXXX in Delhi then the dialed number can also be +91 11 XXXXXXXX.

How I know that? Well experience is not required actually but I’ve experience having called India numbers from outside India! :)

    Hi Amit,

I do understand what you said is logical but I have friends in US who need to dial 011 before any India number. Thats Odd because what you said is you dont need 011. I had a freind who called me on Mobile yesterday using 011 prefixed. I am not sure if that + is taking care of 011 also.

Ashish, that 011 might be either their office’s code for outside line or their telecom provider’s way to allow them to make an international call outside North America. Otherwise 011 is not an international code & not required to be prefixed when calling from any country to any country. The ‘+’ symbol is equal to 00, so you can put any of these before country code & it will work – usually the ‘+’ symbol is available in mobile phone’s keypad on the ‘*’ key! No one calling me from Europe, Asia or US have had to use 011. :)

Yup you are right on that its has nothing to do with country code and I knew that part but My friend do need to put 011. Moreover I never meant any where that 011 is code but sometimes calling from different countries has their own wa of doing it and this is what it talks about.

I just asked my friend to call without 011 and he wasnt able to .
