What do you do when you don’t have anything other than a cell phone with GPRS and you want to download some set of files like audio and video or music files or you want to distribute a application files to multiple mobile users ?

Beam it up Scotty ( yes , you read it right ) is a new service which targets mobile devices specifically so when an uploaded files is downloaded on mobile devices its fast enough. This service works across countries and across cell phones. Also, this is a great way to share files across mobile users across countries. You can just send this as SMS to rest of people. You can download an application or even distribute applications to your mobile customers

How it works ?

You can upload a file which in case is music or video is compressed in ZIP file ( optional ) and then sends a link of the uploaded file to the mobile phone on SMS or text message.  So now if you want a file on your cell phone just ask people to use this service.

You can see in the above image you get an approximate time which download will take on your mobile phone depending on if you have GPRS or EDGE or UMTS. Remember to add 00 ( two zeros ) before your country code. Like for India it is 0091XXXXXXXXXX where 91 is the country code.

Email Confirmation and Download Link

For the first time you will be asked to confirm through email id. This is to avoid spammers and once you verify it sends a download link to that file. I got the message in like 2 minutes max. Here is the verification email and SMS of the download link of the file.

The only limitation is that audio and video files will be capped at 5 minutes and you are limited to 10 uploads per day. The files are available on their server for a month max, enough time for you and your friends to download the files when you share it. So what are you waiting for Beam it up scotty!!!
