Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars, or a telescope.

Another great freeware astronomy program (more like a solar system browser) is Celestia: http://www.shatters.net/celestia/

I’ve used both (and reviewed Stellarium on my blog), and they both fill a certain niche.
