.com,.in and now .tel – Domain of the future
Imagine being able to call a company through a single alphanumeric string – weather you are using a phone, email, SMS, Skype, AIM or any other communication technology. No, it is not that impossible as it sounds like.
If you wanted to contact amazon people for delay of delivery you would most probably go to contact page and write an hefty email…what if you knew it would work by sending an email at amazon.tel!!!! Cool !
How .tel domain can work :-
Companies can register for .tel domain names, just like they do for .com or .net. The .tel domain will be exclusively for communication. In the domain space owned by the company, it can store a database(collection of Naming Authority Pointers or NAPTR),which in turn stores its contact details like email id and messenger id , phone numbers and others.

All this will happen without knowledge of dialer. The company will have to run some software to handle with the type of request that will come. As far as the dialers are concerned they can use just one contact id.
This is not in realms of science fiction, all this is perfectly possible just not implemented.
The .tel Story behind the scenes:-
Telnic, UK-Based company conceptualized .tel as early as 98′They realized it as a universal communication identity. Telnic applied to the ICANN(Internet Corporation of Names and Numbers, In 2000 but the agency was responsible for regulating this domain setting and enforcing policies etc. Telnic’s request was approved in May 2006.

The domain of the future:-
Once Telnic gets the infrastructure and policies in place,it wil start registration for domains to get .tel. registration of pure numeric will not be allowed as it can clash with other phone numbers too.
As the internet moves towards becoming more a preferred communication medium where services media and other are getting integrated. The domain will emerge as domain of future.
