TrID : Smart utility designed to identify file types
Unknown file types is one of the most common issues which trick computer users many a time. You get some set of file on mail or download and when you try to open it, it says choose program to open it. Well that’s good but how an end user is supposed to know which file type is that unless he had seen once ?
Moreover sometimes you had used a program to open certain file types but you don’t have it now. It could be a very long time you used it and how do you remember it now ?
TrID is one such smart utility that tries to solve the problem. It uses a database of type defined extension which helps in recognizing and it learns the new types or updates the old one as the users uses the file types in his or her computer.
The scanning part is done by TrIDScan which creates new definitions to be used with TrID. You can use it to help collect new unique definitions.
So next time you find a file which you cannot open, run trid against that file and you would get information which will help you in opening it up.
