What’s a True Quad Core?
The AMD(Advanced Micro Devices) launch of motherboard(AMD’s Quad FX Platform) with four cores, targeting gaming enthusiasts in an effort to keep pace with the release of quad-core chips by rival Intel, has started a debate over chip industry on the design of a True Quad core. This motherboard is a complete heaven for gamers. It includes includes two dual-core Athlon 64 FX-70 series chips and uses Nvidia’s 680a chip set.Its aimed at gamers, multitaskers — and Intel’s quad-core designs.
Now you must be thinking a talked a lot about what AMD has newly launched but am i going out of the topic..No.Now you got what amd has done lets talk is it really a quad.?
What is a real quad ?
A basic Quad core runs on the principles that says all the cores has to work together.Like Intel’s Qaud architecture it has 2 di processors running in synchronization which solves the purpose if any of the bi fails. This motherboard of AMD is not a true quad.It has 2 di processors running together to give the same effect. It has four processing cores; they just don’t live together. But Advanced Micro Devices is betting that hard-core gamers won’t care about the architecture used to build its new Quad FX Platform.Intel has claimed to be the winner in the quad-core race on Nov. 14 by packaging two dual-core chips together in the Xeon 5300 for servers and Core 2 Extreme QX6700 for gamers. How applications are now memory eaters?
A desktop with four computing cores can be a workstation for mega memory eaters and programs which make your hard disk lights keep blinking for hrs when you boot up.Users who don’t have time and want to do a lot of things simultaneously…this is a good.Watch high-definition video while burning a DVD, downloading a bit torrent file, and chatting on a team speak connection, even as their PC runs anti virus software, Skype, and instant messaging applications in the background.
AMD’s Quad FX Platform
However, because the AMD’s Quad FX Platform uses two sockets, only the Ultimate version of Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system will be able to take advantage of the second dual-core processor. All other versions of Vista will work on the platform, but won’t be able to recognize the second processor. When AMD does introduce quad-core chips designed to fit into a single socket, they will fit into the same motherboard used to build the Quad FX Platform.
