Well there is one more way to maintain an offline antivirus. Most of the antivirus programs allow you to get update from internet as downloadable. You can get it from time to time from somebody ho has internet and keep your antivirus updated.

As Manav said there is no antivirus that would work without updates so this is one solution.

Another one I can suggest is threatfire which is listed on the above link but it might slowdown your system. You can give it a try and see how it works for you.

Well, as such no antivirus works without internet, its like to keep it updated, you need the internet connection, however i remember using AVG 7, it had an option of offline update, i.e. you required to download the updates from AVG's official website and transport it on your system using USB drive or any other storage media, but I am not sure if the option is available in AVG 8 (the latest version), so you can check it out and find if it works.
Moreover as you said you want an antivirus which doesn't need and Internet connection, that means your computer is already quite secure as not exposed to internet, in such case you are most likely to get an infection via USB drives, so in such case another tool which is very efficient in battling infections propagated via USB drive is USB firewall, which doesn't require any updates. To read more and know more about USB Firewall have a look at the link below.
