Google Mobile App : Supports Wifi, Local Email and Contact Search

This is big news for me and people out there who don’t have the complete BIS plan and want to use Google Mobile App. According to the latest update made to this application for blackberry, Google Mobile App now

  • Lets you search your contacts by using voice and text.
  • Location awareness for better results.
  • Works over WIFI if your Blackberry is connected to one which has internet. But remember if you don’t have wi-fi connected that doesn’t mean that it would work for contact search alone. So you need to have internet either through wi-fi or BIS and there is no option to disable internet search.
  • Displays a history of search result if the search matches your contacts and email

Few problems which I see :

Though I don’t see Gmail and Maps application to be working. There is some problem as Maps give me an exception saying Application terminated: Google maps has been denied Cross application communication permission and Gmail gives an exception of  Uncaught exception : net.rim.device.api.system.controlledAccessException. Looks like both have serious security issues.

Search alone works awesome and since I have Internet both at home and office I will be using it more extensively now. I wish they can make other apps work also.

  1. You can solve the Google maps issues by doing this

Settings > Options > Security Options > Application Permissions

Highlight the application you want then hit:

    Menu > Edit Permissions

    Highlight:

    Interactions > Allow

Also, if you expand the Interactions the first one underneath it reads “Cross Application Communication”
