Cyanogen doesn’t need an introduction if you been on Android. Their ROM has been always famous, not only for making things better, but also give Android a lot of room to breath when the OEM customisations, made it even worse. That said, the company has announced its exclusive partnership with Micromax, a popular Indian OEM for Android phones.
While this is overall a good news for consumers, because they get better stuff, a third person gets shot in the head–One Plus Indian Fans including the One Plus as a company. One Plus planned for an official launch in India, with Amazon. India is a huge market when it comes to mobile consumers and One Plus was definitely looking for the opportunity.
Now that said, here is the problem. The partnership restricts anybody else to get support for their devices.Cyanogen OS will not support any other devices shipping in India with future updates including Lollipop. Only Micromax devices which comes with the OS will be entitled which they recently announced, called as YU.
The first device from YU is planned to be announced in December will also be the first to launch with Cyanogen’s new Themes app, supported by a powerful theming engine along with Nextbit’s Baton, a cloud-syncing app service.
It feels really odd writing about a new partnership and One Plus consumers getting disappointed. It’s good and bad to the same time. So what happens next ? While their December 2nd launch is still a go, but consumers will be moved to Lollipop based ROM by Feb Next Year. This also means, consumers will have to flash a new ROM.
This is a great deal for Indian users to use the ever famous Cyanogen based custom ROM which One plus is providing on invite basis. Yu will be updated soon with the phone’s features.
