Is Nexus 7 Still a Better Choice Compared to Samsung Galaxy Tab 3

Samsung India today launched new Tablet, Galaxy Tab 3 in two versions with their agenda of performance and portability . The tablet is also claimed to be smart because of the customization Samsung built into this phone — Multi Window, Smart Stay and Popup Video.

The first is Tab 7 inches while the second tab has 8 inch screen. Though looking at it the difference might not be very obvious but their specifications definitely differ by few minutes, if I have to judge them by time. The prices for Tab3 7″ is Rs 17, 745 while Tab 3 8″ Rs 25,725; and Tab 3 8″ (Wi-Fi only) For Rs 21, 945.

Now the real point of writing this post was how does these devices compare when it comes to Nexus 7 version ( WIFI Only) which was recently made available in India.

Galaxy Tab 3 — 8″
Google Nexus — 7″

Rs 15,999

If you keenly look at the specs, there is not much of difference between Nexus Version of Android Tab and the Galaxy Version of Tabs. They seem to be more of incremental than differing by a large margin.

One of the major drawback for Nexus 7″ could be the Wi-Fi only version but with most smartphones having Internet sharing that can be ruled out for now.

Keeping the price factor in mind, Nexus 7″ is a great choice compared to Tab 3 7″ because of Storage and better screen quality. Even though Nexus 7 still beats Tab 3 8 inch in terms of that but having a 5 MP Camera, 16Gb Storage with SIM Capability might be choice for some of you.

There are few plus points of Samsung Tabs. They come along with customization from Samsung which is not available with the vanilla Android running on Nexus 7.

  • My Education Service gives users access to 2000 ebooks, 1000 learning videos & content for school & college kids.
  • Camera Modes like Story Album to enhance picture viewing experience.
  • Reading mode to enhance the reading experience. Smart Stay makes reading pleasurable & easy.
  • S Translator for instant translation using voice recognition and text.

Summary:

Wrapping up, IMO Nexus 7 is a great value for money Android tablet even though some key aspects like 3G version and the rear camera is missing. However with 32GB / 16Gb Storage and with most of the users having Internet Sharing on their phone, Tab 3 fails to impress me.

  1. I’ve had a Nexus 7 for around 9months and it’s an impressive tablet. I chose it because it has the stock Android and also mainly because of price. It’s one of the cheapest tablets (other than the Kindle Fire HD) available today in the form factor and its a good decision if you don’t want the bells and whistles that Samnsung has to offer.
