How to Set the Volume for Individual Apps on Windows PC

Windows 11 allows us to customize the volume of every active application installed in the system. We can configure multiple ways to increase or decrease the sound level of these applications according to our needs. This article provides a detailed overview of how to modify the Windows settings to Set the Volume for Individual Apps on a Windows PC.

Advantages of setting the volume for individual apps

Customizing the volume levels for both used and unused applications can help us regulate how loud an app can be without affecting the functionality of other applications, regulating the sound experience to our liking.

For example, if we are watching a movie, but regular messages or notification sounds interrupt our continuity, we can reduce the volume of the messaging application and focus on the movie, setting aside unwanted sounds for incoming messages or notifications.

How to Set the Volume for Individual Apps on Windows 11

Windows 11 allows us to use multiple options for adjusting the volume level of all the active applications, as detailed below:

  1. From Windows Taskbar
  2. From Windows Settings Menu
  3. Through Third-Party Applications

1] From Windows Taskbar

  • Right-click on the volume icon in the system tray in the bottom right corner of the screen.

By adjusting the settings from this window, we can also use specific output devices for each application. For example, if we are watching a movie, we can change the output device to headphones for our running application. Similarly, we can also choose the system speakers for other applications to avoid unwanted interruptions.

3] Using 3rd Party Apps

Though Windows 11 has its built-in applications for adjusting the Volume level for the active applications, quite a few free third-party utilities are available online for the same customization.

EarTrumpet is an application that allows us to adjust the volume levels from its interface. After installing the application, we can click on its icon in the system tray or Notification Area to launch its interface and use the sliders to adjust the volume levels.
