Sony announced the Xperia Z back at CES this year. After quite a few years, Sony has managed to announce an impressive handset. The Xperia Z comes with tempered glass on its front and back, along with sealed ports which help the device in getting the IP57 certification. This means that the Xperia Z is dust-resistant as well as water-proof.
The front of the Xperia Z is adored by a beautiful 5-inch 1080p display, which is ruined by its poor viewing angles. The display also has Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 that automatically enhances the colors and contrast levels while watching videos or pictures.
Internally, the Xperia Z uses Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC that is clocked at 1.5GHz. This same SoC is found inside the likes of Optimus G, Nexus 4 and the DROID DNA. Other specs of the Xperia Z include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, a microSD card slot, and the usual bunch of connectivity and sensors. The Xperia Z also sports an IR Blaster that allows it to act as a remote control for all your household appliances.
The back of the Xperia Z houses a 13MP Exmor R camera that is also capable of recording HDR videos. Out of the box, the Xperia Z runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, but Sony says that it will be rolling out the Android 4.2 update for the device “very soon”.
While the Xperia Z has a 2300mAh battery, Sony has also included a new feature called Stamina mode. Enabling this feature will automatically disable the mobile data on your phone when the screen is off, thus increasing battery life.
