From my past experience I have seen lot of people when use other computers do something naughty with their files which becomes a cause of anger and then time spent to find out what all changed. In case this is happening to you also, Windows allows you to prevents users from using My Computer to gain access to the content of selected drives.
- Go to Group Policy Editor
- Navigate to Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Explorer
- Look for policy starting with “Prevent access to drives from My Computer”
If you enable this setting, users can browse the directory structure of the selected drives in My Computer or Windows Explorer, but they cannot open folders and access the contents. Also, they cannot use the Run dialog box or the Map Network Drive dialog box to view the directories on these drives.
However the icons representing the specified drives still appear in My Computer, but if users double-click the icons, a message appears explaining that a setting prevents the action. Happy locking the drives. !!
